AMC Theater CEO Adam Aron revealed that iOS and Android mobile apps are accepting cryptocurrency payments through integration with BitPay, a Bitcoin and altcoin payment service provider.
AMC Theatres, an American cryptocurrency-enabled cinema chain, has updated its mobile app services to accept Dogecoin (DOGE), Shibu Inu (SHIB), and other cryptocurrencies as payment in the United States.
AMC theaters first began accepting cryptocurrency payments as early as November 12, 2022, allowing customers to buy movie tickets online using Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) , and Litecoin (LTC) .
In early 2022, Adam Aron , CEO of AMC Theaters, promised users to enable DOGE and SHIB meme tokens by March. Despite a slight delay, Aron’s team completed the task.
“As promised, the AMC Mobile App for US AMC Cinemas now accepts online payments using Doge Coin, Shiba Inu and other cryptocurrencies thanks to Bitpay. As well as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Paypal. To do this, you will first need to update our app to the latest version,” Adam Aron tweeted on April 15, 2022.
In the announcement, Aron said that the AMC Theaters iOS and Android mobile apps can accept cryptocurrency payments through integration with BitPay, a bitcoin and altcoin payment service provider.
However, the names of other recently supported cryptocurrencies have yet to be revealed. To use this feature, US users are advised to download the latest version of the mobile app.
Nium, a Singapore-based cross-border payment company, has released an API-based solution in partnership with BitPay that allows businesses to start accepting crypto payments starting with BTC and ETH.
Cryptocurrency payments via BitPay are reported to be converted and sent to merchant accounts in USD or other fiat currencies the next business day.
