Tsinghua University on Friday opened China’s first Metaverse Culture Lab to promote the study and development of the country’s growing Metaverse space.
The new lab will be used for future research in media technology, metaverse culture and creativity, and other areas of the metaverse.
As Chinese tech companies and local governments explore the metaverse, Tsinghua University pioneered research in the field, unveiling the first metaverse robotic system last year.

The new lab was founded in collaboration between the Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication and China Online (COL), a digital publishing company.
Xiang Botao, vice secretary of the party committee of Tsinghua University, and Tong Zhilei, chairman and president of the China Online Group, personally led the event, and the virtual hosts hosted it in the metaverse
